THE MOST PRESSING CHALLENGE FACING AMERICAN SOCIETY:

At the end of his life, F.A. Hayek was searching for an explanation as to why the virtues of a free market, features that were self-evident to him, had little lasting effect on the American Republic.  Hayek toyed with the idea that western humanity was in the grip of an evolutionary passion for the intimacies of tribal life.  The return to tribalism, with its attendant social, psychological mores remains the single most threatening aspect of western life.

The recovery of a distinct moral quality, an insight into the gift that is human identity as natural right is the moral challenge of our time.  This inalienable reality is the source underwriting the achievement that is western civilization   It is indissolubly linked to the theological foundation of secular achievements. The recovery of humanness remains central to the recovery of an ascendant American Civilization.

New sources of authority informing and shaping contemporary man no longer acknowledge a limited sphere of autonomy for reason.  The recovery of reason is the source to defeating fanaticism and the tyranny of the collective.

The single most offensive categorial claim that secularism seeks to arrogate and deny is the religious claim to truth itself.  The defeat of positivism, historicism and numerous modes of thought that usurp the nature of the religious claim to truth must be countered.

Where do we begin?

We begin by distinguishing between the study of nature and the study of man.  Try Leon Wieseltier Commencement address, as he attempts to wrestle an enduring answer to the moral challenge of our time.

 Toxic Tribalism
quoting Victor Davis Hanson via The Patriot Post
Democrats should be careful what they wish for. Tribalism requires purity, which in turn requires conformity.
