Algeria’s Defense Ministry confirmed Tuesday that it has sacked its air force chief, eight months ahead of presidential elections. Maj. Gen. Abdelkader Lounes will be replaced by Maj. Gen. Hamid Boumaiza. The announcement comes days after local papers reported Lounes’ dismissal as well as the dismissal of Maj. Gen. Ahsan Tafer, the ground forces commander, as part of a major reshuffle of the country’s military establishment.
