Israel’s Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said Wednesday that the citizenship of 20 Israelis who joined the Islamic State (IS) will be revoked. Deri said an amendment to Israel’s Nationality Act enacted this month allows authorities to strip the citizenship of people engaged in terrorist activities even in absentia. The Shin Bet, Israel’s security service, recently compiled a list of Israeli citizens still fighting for IS in Syria and Iraq. The list includes two Israeli Jews and 18 Israeli-Arabs.
